Holidays

We had a week’s holiday back in Dalmellington again, but this year we stayed in the cottage which we saw being restored in June 2008.

The building was basically a shell and a pile of rubble. It was to be called Forget Me Not.

Imagine our delight when we returned a year later to find an idyllic thatched cottage.

Whilst we were in Ayrshire, we went to the RSPB reserve at Ken Dee Marshes.  We had visited one of the hides there in 2008 and had been fortunate to see a red squirrel at fairly close quarters (about 30 ft away) so we thought we would try our luck again.

After about 20 minutes we saw a squirrel again ( smaller than last year) then Mum or Dad appeared, so we had two.  They performed perfectly - feeding on peanuts and hanging upside down etc. We also saw woodpeckers, nuthatch, great tits, etc. At one point a jay flew across.  We were about to leave when we heard a strange noise just outside the hide window - there were the squirrels, just five feet away!
