W elcome to our Christmas Newsletter 2009.
Thanks for dropping in and having a look.
Another year, another newsletter. Not a very exciting year - we just can’t believe how quickly it has gone.
In May (30th/31st) we entered the village scarecrow trail. Derek had the idea that a spaceman would be appropriate, particularly as 2009 saw the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. Derek started making the space helmet about a month before hand using papier mache over an inflatable beachball. The gold faceplate was a piece of thermal survival blanket. The space suit was one of those white disposable overalls and it was stuffed with loads of bubblewrap. An old pair of Derek’s wellies were sprayed white. With the addition of a backpack made from a couple of pieces of polystyrene concealing an old stereo speaker and a copy of the recording of the “One small step...” speech looping on the laptop, we were about ready. There were about 100 entries and over the two days we did notice quite a few people stopping to look (and listen). Unbelievably, on the following Monday evening we got a call from the Chief Scarecrow - apparently, we had won by a substantial margin! People following the trail had voted for our scarecrow!
We will have to defend our title next year - Derek already has a potential idea....
